Primordial Post
All projects have to start somewhere. I’ve never written or published much content, as I tend to get hyper-focused on learning and doing as opposed to documenting. I wanted a place to keep track of my projects and perhaps provide a resource to others who might have similar interests or problems to solve. I also have a soft spot for the IndieWeb concept, so it made sense to start a blog of my own and tinker with current website technology along the way.
I liked the cleanliness and simplicity of Bear Blog, but wanted to host my own site, so I used Harley Wilson’s adaptation of the Bear styling for the Astro web framework. I ran into a couple of snags initially — I started from Harley’s github code, but had issues building the site with errors relating to the sitemap. I’m not exactly sure what the problem was (I’m not an expert in Astro or Javascript development), but everything started working after I updated Astro to the latest version. I made a few visual tweaks, added support for posts marked draft to skip publication, and deployed the site to a domain on Cloudflare.
I’m not really a social media user, but may try to share these posts in a few places, as otherwise there isn’t really much of a way to discover this content as it is not hosted on any sort of blogging or social platform.
